COVID-19: United Kingdom exceeds 50 thousand infections in one day

Daily infections by COVID-19 they reached the 52 thousand nine in the last 24 hours in the United Kingdom as a whole, surpassing the barrier of 50 thousand cases for the first time since July 17, according to official data released this Thursday.

The British Ministry of Health also reported today that other 115 people died in the same time interval from the disease, bringing the total number of deaths from the virus to 139,146 since the outbreak of the pandemic.

At the same time, other separate data released by the National Statistics Office (ONS) pointed out that the total number of deaths from coronavirus registered in the country in which the disease was mentioned in the death certificate reached 164 thousand.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson today urged citizens to get booster vaccines when it is their turn amid growing pressure on his Government to introduce more restrictions in the face of the rise in daily cases.

The conservative leader has reiterated that despite the recent spike in infections, his Executive “will continue with its plan” for now and assured that the current situation of the pandemic is much better than a year ago thanks to the vaccination program.

Johnson has received calls from various sectors, such as health, to establish his so-called Plan B or contingency, which would reintroduce the mandatory use of masks in certain places and the recommendation to work from home.
