Eric Pierson, a 54-year-old man who was released from prison in 2020 after having served part of a sentence for murder, was arrested in South Florida, United States, as alleged author of the murder of a woman whose body presented wounds made with a screwdriver on the chest and eyes.
Pierson faces first-degree murder charges in the death of 33-year-old Érika Verdecia, who was reported missing on September 27 by her family, who reside in Sunrise, 50 kilometers from Miami, and was found dead. this Saturday on a channel.
Local media indicated today that Pierson was arrested this Sunday and confessed to having stuck the screwdriver in Verdecia’s chest and in each eye, who left a seven-year-old daughter.
The disappearance of Érika Verdecia
A security camera captured the image of Verdecia leaving her house on September 24, but it was not until three days later that her disappearance was reported.
According to the Telemundo channel, the Sunrise police saw and questioned Verdecia and Pierson when they stopped his vehicle for traffic reasons on September 25 and she gave no signs of being in danger.
However, Pierson told detectives after her arrest that that was the day he killed her.
When the family reported the disappearance they already knew that Verdecia had been with Pierson because there were acquaintances of her who saw them together and they also knew the history of the now detained because they searched his name on the internet and were horrified, according to Erika’s mother, Carmen Verdecia, told the media.
When police contacted Pierson, again on October 4, he told investigators that Verdecia had wandered off when he stopped for gas shortly after the traffic stop and said he never saw her again.
After being questioned again, Pierson let them search his truck and found bloodstains.
His girlfriend later called the police to tell them that he had watched the channel behind their house and said, “Damn, that bitch sucks.”
Hours later the body of Erika Verdecia was found in a canal near the suspect’s house.

After being convicted in 1985 of attempted first-degree murder of a woman, he was found guilty of the 1993 murder of 17-year-old Kristina Whitaker, for which he was sentenced to 40 years in prison after plead guilty.
Pierson was released in September 2020, when he had turned 27 in his 40s, thanks to a change in Florida law that allows parole for convicts who have served at least 85% of their sentences.
