Korea Tourism Organization (CEO Ahn Young-bae) held the Korean tourism promotion event ‘Feel Korea 2021’ in Dubai from October 14th to 16th in conjunction with the participation in Expo 2020 Dubai.
This event, held on the artificial island of Palm Jumeirah, a hot place in Dubai, was designed to quench the local thirst for Korean tourism and to increase interest in and potential demand for Korea. , Hallyu Startup Springs15 and the best club in the local Hallyu community, co-hosted by the Korean Consulate General in Dubai, the Korean Cultural Center in the United Arab Emirates, and the Korea International Exchange and Culture Promotion Agency.
This large-scale offline Korean tourism promotion event, held for the first time in the Middle East since Corona 19, attracted more than 30,000 visitors and a procession of coverage by local media and famous influencers, realizing Korea’s popularity in the Middle East.
The most eye-catching was the ‘Korea Village’ with an area of about 1,500 square meters, where major tourist destinations in Korea such as Gwanghwamun, Samcheong-dong, and Hongdae were created by zone. As visitors walked through each tourist area, they experienced a variety of Korean culture, including traditional Korean clothes and hair styling, calligraphy and crafts, Korean food, K-pop and traditional performances. The experience hall, which was created as a parody of the Netflix drama squid game, which is popular in the Middle East, so that visitors can enjoy Korean play culture such as takchichigi and dalgona games, continued to line up throughout the event period.
In addition, ‘Korea Travel Trick Eye Gallery’, which combines Trick Eye with AR technology, was also popular, and the dance flash mob of ‘Feel the Rhythm of Korea Season 1’, a promotional video for Korea tourism that became a hot topic last year with ‘Beom Coming Down’, and Together with local K-pop performance groups, guerrilla dance performances were held throughout the venue. Also, on the 15th, popular Hallyu stars Super Junior Eunhyuk and Kyuhyun performed performances at Pointe Fountain Square, further heightening the atmosphere of the event.
Afra Aldoobi, a UAE national who participated in the event, said, “It is very exciting to experience various and wonderful Korean culture in the Middle East. When overseas travel becomes free, I want to feel the excitement of this event once again in Korea.”
In addition, Alaa Alawadhi, president of the ‘Best Club’ of the local Hallyu community, the co-organizer of the event, said, “I was very happy to be participating in a large-scale Korean tourism promotion event with the corporation as the organizer. As a Korean traveler in the Middle East, I will take pride in promoting Korean tourism and culture.”
Meanwhile, during the expo period, the KTO is operating the Korea Tourism Promotion Center in the Korea Pavilion to promote various Korean culture and tourism attractions. Various non-face-to-face experience programs such as hanbok, AR photo zone for Korean tourist destinations, and kiosks for recommending Korean tourist destinations based on big data, as well as traditional culture such as crafts and calligraphy, and Korean medical experience programs using InBody (body composition tester) will be held. In addition, the Korea Day event and the Korea Tourism Expo will be held together with related organizations during the Expo Korea Week (June 16, 2022. 20.).
Hong Hyun-sun, head of the Dubai branch of the corporation, said, “The Middle East market has a high proportion of high value-added tourism such as medical care and wellness, so it is a strategically important region for the qualitative growth of tourism in the future.
