The president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, whose popularity is at an all-time low, revealed that often cry “alone in the bathroom” when making difficult decisions.
“How many times have I cried alone in the bathroom of my house?” Asked the far-right president on Thursday night in a conference in front of an evangelical public.
“My wife never saw me, she believes that I am the most macho of the macho men. In part I think she is right,” he added, causing laughter from the audience.
Taking up a more serious tone, Bolsonaro said: “Now it’s not like when he was a deputy (…) If I make a bad decision, a lot of people are going to suffer. “
The Brazilian president is experiencing one of the most delicate moments of his mandate, which began in January 2019.
The approval of his government fell to 22%, the lowest since he took office, amid the coronavirus pandemic that has killed more than 600,000 lives, skyrocketing inflation and high unemployment.
Polls show him as the loser to his biggest political adversary, former leftist president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, in the presidential elections in October 2022.
Also, next week, a Senate commission of inquiry will issue a report incriminating Bolsonaro and several members of his administration by the chaotic handling of the pandemic.
